I was one of the judges at the Miss Ilford Beauty pageant on Saturday and I was truly shocked! There were some gorgeous girls with zero self-worth and others who were oozing in confidence... I just don’t get it! I was trying to figure out how confidence is grown! I wish it could be bought off the shelf! Just imagine it, you pop to your local supermarket and your shopping list reads 4 cans of baked beans, Greek style yoghurt and a tonne of CONFIDENCE! You’d be sorted!
Let’s be honest, if you imagined a beauty Queen, they would be tall and stunning with perfect hair and not much underneath it! But i am pleased to say that the majority of the contestants had something to say for themselves. They knew who our new prime minister is and even had their own thoughts about what issues they would tackle if they became Miss Ilford; Free make-up and hair extensions for all... Only joking!
The Miss Ilford contestants certainly did have beauty and brains!
Make sure you catch MissyD at the Miss Ilford final on the 31st of this month when one lucky lady will not only be crowned Miss Ilford but also the Club Asia Babe!!
I’m off to check my hair but don’t forget to catch me on iRadio Mon-Sat 10pm-1am or why not click on iRadio and submit your own iPlaylist!

We humans have funny habits, maybe its boredom, overworked or we are related to the Lallu family.
A few days ago, I got home from Club Asia feeling pretty hungry. I looked in the fridge to grab a munch, stared for a few seconds, pita and humus, sandwich, left over’s from last night, I couldn’t decide so closed the fridge door. A few minutes later I went to the fridge again and did the same thing all over again as if something new would appear. Maybe in the future it will be a reality as technology moves in leaps and bounds.
But I know I’m not the only quack who does that. Back in the day after clubbing, the ritual was to get a bite from a kebab shop. My brother and a friend would always crack me up. I would order my usual sheesh and chips, five minutes later they would still be standing there gazing at the menu then end up ordering their usual. What were they expecting????
Then there is the crazy habit of buying clothes, especially when at a sale. I’ve done it and many I know have done it in the changing room. Now before you get excited I’m talking about taking clothes in knowing full well they won’t fit but we can’t miss a bargain.
It’s all strange but true, join in on the online poll.

The past week has been really exciting for me. I've had the pleasure of being part of the judging panel at the 4 heats of the UK Bollywood Dance Championships along with the dance goddess Honey Kalaria. I spent hours in front of people up and down London & Leicester trying to impress us with their best Bollywood dance moves. The one thing I noticed was that I find it really hard to be mean to people, even if someone was really rubbish (not saying anyone was), and the one time I did, I felt really guilty! how Simon Cowell does it I don't know???
And of course there was the 4 stage shows put on by Honeys Dance Academy which I had to host. Unlike Missy D I am a nervous wreck before I get on stage but once I'm there my mind, body and soul goes into automation mode & I turn into "Mr Kay" and I lap it all up!
I really loved being part of the whole show and can't wait for the semi finals and finals. And after watching all those fabulous acts I decided to take up Bollywood dancing myself! After all I wanna be part of that masti too...so watch this space because I'll be filming every step!

So there I was happily munching away on my subway, with extra cheese, extra mayo, and of course my fav cheese n onion crisps. Plus who eats subway without a nice cold, ice cold coke? And then chocked on it when I was given the news.
Fikar not, this isn’t about food, as I can see most of my male colleagues love chatting about that subject here. Nope I wanna tell you about something entirely different. Me and my shyness and that dreaded news.
My manager passing conversation told me that all of us Club Asia presenters had been booked to have a professional photo shoot in a few weeks time, and was well excited about it. She asked if I was? Was I hell?
You see stick your Missy, infront of a mic, or even on a stage infront of a million and she is a very happy bunny and does not know the meaning of shy.
Stick me infront of a camera lens and I am the most shy person you will ever meet. I hate my picture being taken!! You wouldn’t believe it would you. Thing is though this is little difficult to explain.
See I love taking my own picture. Not a problem with that at all. Its just when someone is on the other side of that lens, is when I get really shy man!!
I bet you didn’t even think it right? I’m only human. Just like you!!!

So now that it’s ‘British Summertime’, guess it’s time to don the chappal, the hot-pants and undo a few buttons on the shirt? Hmmm, not quite. You know what our summertime’s like. I’m looking out the window to a town that is over-washed with more grey than a million elephants. Even more of a reason to think about holidays then!
In my mind at the moment are that 3 day break I’ve been craving to Iceland; a land of mystery and fascination. Maybe a music festival in Serbia – not the easiest place to get to but if I go in a group, it could turn into an air / boat and/or road trip! And I’m not about to forget the Autumn hike to Japan… up and down the country with 2 friends, living on nothing but raw fish each day and cramping our legs into the smaller-than-normal transport! So much to think about but nothing booked… yet!
So what about you? I love the way the summer makes us feel, people are in such a good mood when the suraj dims later. And thoughts of holidays in June, July and August are something that keep us going aren’t they? Don’t tell anyone I told you but while you’re reading this at work, open up a new tab and start searching. Book it next week and start making your itinerary the week after…
Let’s make this summer a good one!

I'm not as big a fan of burgers as I used to be back in the day when an expanding waist line was not in my dictionary. However on a recent trip to Manchester I had a burger BOOger nightmare.
Leaving London in true desi timing meant we (my wife, son and I) didn't get time to eat at home, so no problem, service stations zindabad. We waited till we got onto the M6. I do prefer sitting down and having a meal but that was not going to happen as we were running well late, none of us wanted sandwiches plus the kfc, burger king and makie d's were closed.
We then decided to eat in Manchester, but by the time we got there, kitchens were closing and tiredness kicked in, room service not 24 hours at the hotel so we just got a take away from a fast food joint. Normally I go for a sheesh kebab but opted for a cheese burger which ended up being so tasteless that a food stain on ones clothing would be better.
On the way back to London, I noticed a wimpy at a service station we had stopped at so decided to try as I hadn't had one since I was a kid. Looking forward to munching on my burger I was for the second time in a row really disappointed. I wanted to complain but we were already on the motorway. I couldn’t believe that 1 cheese burger and a burger meal would cost just over £10. One would not mind if the taste was fine, serious daylight robbery.
I huffed and puffed then decided to cook burgers for the family with authentic sauce made by myself. The burgers were better or maybe the kids were making me feel good. Lets just say McSanj's has not landed yet.

I started DJing in 1997. Back then all DJs I knew used vinyl. DJs that used CDs were almost frowned upon. For years Middleman & I carried massive crates full of hard plastic from venue to venue. It caused a lot of back pain, cuts, grazes, bruises and a whole heap of blisters!
Then it was 2003. I joined Club Asia and started using CDs simply because it was impossible to get hold of any Asian music on the good old vinyl. And even then, the problem with the CDs was that they would sometimes skip – which left you with a shameful face.
My life has changed in the past couple of months. I invested in a laptop and some software which allows me to leave all my vinyl and CDs at home. I am now able select my music off my laptop with out having to break my back or worry about the CD jumping! If Jazzy Jeff, a world renowned DJ swears by it (Yes!!! From the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) then who am I to complain?
And to anyone who says “using a computer is not DJing”, all I want to say is try it before you knock it! Because you still need skills! Check out my mixes every Saturday on the Urban Session 7PM onwards.

Got to say as a radio presenter I have compared myself to the likes of a lawnmower. Actually a Flymo to be precise with you. See, if you imagine a field of long overgrown grass, and once you fire up that machine, it skims beautifully over the grass. Then all the grass is neatly packed into that box. This is kind of me….
You see I am like an information absorbing machine that sits and observes, then keeps that information in my little box, and then regurgitates it when needed. How else do you think I am able to talk for the world??!
So lately my observations on men in the kitchen are rather eye opening. You see I live with my male housemate (and have a new addition female housemate). We are like one big happy family and always eat together!! Now bear in mind that there are two females who should be a dab hand at cooking, and we are up against male housemate. Piece of cake right? Nope!!
See the thing is I consider myself to be a very good cook (well taught by mummy), and so does my female housemate. So why is that every time the man in the house cooks he beats us women hands down. He can cook everything so well, pays a lot of attention to detail, and beams like a Cheshire cat when you are oooh’ing and aahhh’ing when enjoying his food!!
So I’ve been observing lots of my male friends lately, and have come to the conclusion that even though cooking is instantly coupled with women, men are very much impressing me with their culinary skills and (sorry women) can actually sometimes do a better job than a woman!!

You know some people might think that just because I’m a radio presenter I can talk about anything! The thing is, since I’ve never been to Theydon Bois underground station, what would I actually say about it, apart from that it’s located somewhere in East London and on the Central Line?
You’ve really surprised me and I love it! Competitions on Your Big Drive Home, are always an amazing affair but when the prize at stake is so brilliant, it makes the finale even better!
So far on Dhan Dhana Bol I’ve definitely learnt not to go anywhere near cactus plants as they might hurt, I’ve learnt that there’s nothing worse than kissing a man with a tickly mooch (NOT from personal experience!) and I’ve concluded that pretty much no woman can EVER talk about the offside rule. So what next?
Spin my magic wheel, land on a celebrity and find out what they want you to talk about… will you be distracted by my mutterings, trying to put you off? Another Drive Home, another fantastic competition, some more great interaction… text to enter and that 50p coin you spend might be worth a 5* holiday for two to Goa…
Can I come…?!!
So join me on Your Big Drive Home from 3pm, Mondays to Fridays.

I’m not sure what you think about supermarkets that will be charging for carrier bags so to reduce damage to our environment. I’m all for saving the planet but what always freaks me out is that things get invented and then there is a clamp down. The way it’s all going i wouldn't be surprised if we go back to basics, horse and cart instead of cars, boats not planes, you get the idea.
Personally I think that the 5p charge for carrier bags will not make much difference at all and all those who carry an eco friendly bag must live on their own. My shopping trolley is always full to the brim as it’s done on a weekly basis so how many eco bags am I going to carry? Maybe we should all have a locker in our local supermarket so we can store our eco bags or how about a drive thru supermarket? Obviously in electric or solar powered mini cars.
What do you think?
